Arriving by road

From the M4 Westbound (Newport) – at junction 28 take the A467, follow signs towards Brynmawr and then Blackwood. From the A465 (Heads of the Valleys Road), take the A4048 towards Tredegar and then Blackwood. Ring 01495 227206 for more details. From The M4 Eastbound (Cardiff), at junction 32 take the A470, then A468 (signposted to Caerphilly), then A469 (signposted to Ystrad Mynach), then A472 (signposted to Blackwood).

Car parking in Blackwood

There is plenty of parking from as little as two minutes walk away. Please ensure that you read all signage carefully in your chosen car park as restrictions may apply. All Caerphilly County Borough’s Pay & Display car parks are free after 6pm. Blackwood Miners’ Institute has a limited number of disabled access parking spaces which must be pre-booked in advance by calling the box office on 01495 227206.


Opening Times

General building opening times

Monday – Friday: 10am – 4pm
Saturday: Closed
Sunday: Closed

The building has limited access outside of the box office opening hours. If you require entrance to the building outside of these times, please speak to a member of our team by using our intercom system. The intercoms are located at both the main entrance and at the level access door at the rear of the building.

Box office opening times

Monday – Friday: 10:00am – 4:00pm

On performance days the box office is open from 1 hour before the start of the performance and closes once the performance starts.

Bar opening times

Our fully licensed bar offers a wide range of beverages and confectionery. Tea and coffee is also available. The bar is open from 1 hour before the performance starts. On arrival at the Theatre, avoid the interval rush by pre-ordering your drinks at the bar.

Access information

  • There is lift and stair access between the ground floor and first floor. There is stair access only between the first and second floors.
  • There are low level service counters at the box office and ground floor bar.
  • Row HH is reserved for wheelchair users and patrons with additional access needs. Please contact our Box Office on 01495 227206 if you have access needs or require a seat in HH.
  • The rake and balcony sections of the auditorium are only accessible by steps. We reserve accessible seating for each performance but it is subject to availability. If you have limited mobility, please advise us at the time of booking so we can ensure your seats are suitable for your needs.
  • Interval orders can be arranged in advance.
  • We have Braille signage throughout the building.
  • Assistance dogs are welcome. We will provide water for assistance dogs. Please ensure to let us know at time of booking if required.

  • Blackwood Miners’ Institute has a limited number of disabled access parking spaces (subject to availability) at the rear of the building. Please note these must be booked in advance. Contact the Box Office on 01495 227206 to reserve a space.
  • There are two accessible entrances to the building. On the ground floor there is a ramped entrance on the left hand side when facing the building. Please press the buzzer and a member of staff will come to open the door. The other entrance is located to the side of the building (through the carpark). Press the buzzer on the wall and a member of staff will open the door.
  • The Box Office, Lower Bar and Dance Studio are all on the ground floor with level access, and there is a lift to the first floor.
  • The Theatre, Upper Bar, Markham Suite (meeting room), Gallery and Lounge are on the first floor, with lift access.
  • There are toilet facilities on both the ground floor and first floor. There is an accessible toilet on the first floor.
  • The Oakdale Suite (meeting room) and Staff Office are on the second floor, these can only be accessed by stairs (no lift access).

Access scheme

We're a Hynt venue

Blackwood Miners’ Institute is a member of the HYNT scheme.

Hynt is a national access scheme working with a network of theatres and arts centres across Wales. Hynt is an Arts Council of Wales initiative managed by Creu Cymru in partnership with Diverse Cymru.

Hynt cardholders are entitled to a ticket free of charge for a personal assistant or carer at all the theatres and arts centres participating in the scheme.

You can book your tickets in person or over the phone by giving your unique Hynt reference number at the time of booking. A carer, companion, personal assistant or group organiser can book on behalf of a Hynt cardholder, however tickets can only be issued to the cardholder, who must show their photographic Hynt card each time they attend a performance.
